Healing during combat or outside your base is key for survival. In this guide on How To Craft Healing Items In Return to Moria (Lord of the Rings) we’ll explain the different mechanics between eating and healing so you can stock up on supplies and begin exploring deeper into the mines.
The food you cook at your base, on your Hearth for example, heals you and fills your hunger meter, but you can’t take it with you. We did actually manage to pick some up on a few occasions but it appears to be a bug, so you’ll want to make something else in order to heal during combat or while on the road.

You need to build an Oven at your base. The Oven is a recipe that is unlocked at the end of the first area. As you follow the story you will eventually reach The Crystal Descent. This is a massive cavern that you need to climb down in order to reach the second region of the game. Once you get to the bottom of The Crystal Descent, you will unlock a number of recipes, including the Loom and the Oven.
The Oven allows you to create recipes such as Lembas, Dried Fruit, Biltong, and Beorn’s Honey-Cakes. All of these items, as well as restoring hunger, also heal your HP immediately when used – like traditional health potions. Most of the recipes are quite straightforward, especially if you have farms to grow the materials. So, once you have unlocked the Oven, you shouldn’t have any more trouble healing during combat.
