If you miss the classic sounds of Count Your Lucky Stars’ early 2010s roster, this one’s for you. The label’s latest signing is Frostburg, MD, emo/indie rockers Be Safe, who fall comfortably into the space Empire! Empire! and Joie De Vivre left behind. There’s another connection too though–vocalist/guitarist Matt Wojcik was once in the ever-underrated Perfect Future.
In any case, there’s no reason to look to the past; Be Safe exists in the now, and we’re excited to premiere their first single today, off their debut LP slated for release early 2024. It’s called “In a House,” and it’s as tender and as heartfelt as anything their forebearers might’ve put out. The band says that the song was written “about the dissolving of relationships and the terrifying struggle of learning to cope with inevitable change. It was also, paradoxically, a lot of fun for us to put together. Deeply personal and emotionally energetic, the song contains many elements we enjoy from the album.”
