Song Review: Minho (SHINee) – Stay For A Night

Before December 2022, Minho was the only SHINee member without a solo album to his name. His music continues to be released in drips and drabs, taking a far more understated approach compared to his bandmates. SHINee tend to offer something for everyone, and if you like softer, coffeehouse fair you’ve found the right guy to deliver.

I wish I enjoyed Minho’s music more than I do. When he’s with the group, his voice can easily be overshadowed by the more dramatic performance styles around him, but he has a nice tone that’s quite different from the rest of the group. However, his solo career has favored vibe over ambition, resulting in a series of hushed songs that are pleasant but slight. Stay For A Night is the latest in this series. Acoustic guitar meets chill beats, framing a hushed melody that often has the conversational phrasing of hip-hop. It’s unlikely to offend anyone, but comes too close to background music for my taste. I don’t come away from the song wanting to replay it, and that’s never ideal.
