Your bedroom should be a place of rest and relaxation, so of course it needs to look the part! Whether you’re starting from scratch or updating your existing space, these tips will help you create the ultimate summer bedroom refresh.

Choose your colour palette. Base your colour palette around three core colours — one cold tone and two warm tones. This will help tie the room together in a considered manner without leaving it flat or boring.

In the moodboard above we’ve gone with a soft grey-green for our cool tone alongside mustard and terracotta as our warm tones.

Texture is your friend! A combination of different textures in a space will make your room feel more lived-in, relaxed and less like a showroom.

We’ve chosen a rattan bed from Life Interiors, a timber and rattan side table from SARAH ELLISON to pair with a loom knotted rug from Weave and with a trusty paper lamp shade from Cult. Smaller textural final touches come in with some lovely miss-matched cushions from Sundance Studio and a statement armchair from Jardan to tie in the reds.

Look for smaller, more affordable art pieces. Buying a big piece of ‘statement’ art can be expensive, and scary. Instead, pull together a collection of smaller, more affordable pieces that you can add to over the years. This can be a mix of paintings, prints and ceramics that you can mount on the wall in a cluster above a sideboard.

In our bedroom refresh we’ve paired a beautiful painting by Melbourne artist Amber Nuttall with a ceramic vase by Tessy King, a Donut vase by Jennifer Oh and a Park Pardon mask from Pan After.

Embrace the mix of old and new. Chances are, you already have furniture in your bedroom so where you can, try to add to what you’ve got with some statement pieces, in particular, lighting. Changing up your lighting can make a world of difference with very little effort! There’s something so nice about mixing old-and new furniture in your home so embrace it where you can!
