Song Review: Jay Park – Taxi Blurr (ft. Kiss Of Life’s Natty)

I don’t always cover Jay Park’s releases on the blog since he’s long since shed the guise of “idol performer,” but it’s worth noting new single Taxi Blurr simply because of its feature. Girl group Kiss Of Life are rapidly gaining popularity, and member Natty has already proven herself a compelling soloist.

Taxi Blurr rides the current wave of Y2K nostalgia, pulling in elements of late-90’s r&b and the occasional skittering dance beat. The song never leans too far into the latter sound, relegating its upbeat energy to the chorus. Much of the track is a languid study in atmosphere. A central melody loops through Taxi Blurr with plenty of repetition, never growing into anything more spectacular than the vibe we’re presented right at the start. The song is ultra smooth, but both Jay Park and Natty have delivered more memorable material in the past.
