Blast Worship: Controlled Existence

Where they from?
Prague, Czechia. I was texting my Dad Sunday night about the New York Jets, who lost in embarrassing fashion to the Pittsburgh Steelers and he summed it up pretty well: “Gene, I have accepted that they are always going to suck.” Such Buddhist-like peace, such zen. All of life is suffering and nothing encapsulates that better than a shitty ass football team from shitty-ass New Jersey.

Why the hype?
You know who doesn’t suck ass? CONTROLLED EXISTENCE! The Prague heavy-hitters have the honor of being the very first ever band featured in this series WAY back in 2018 when their split with Days of Desolation initially caught my ear. There are plenty of super-tight European grindcore bands active today, but Controlled Existence are perhaps the tightest, truly eviscerating the listener with hellacious blast after hellacious blast and some of the most torrid guitar and vocal work this side of the Kill.

Latest Release?
Out of Control out now on Wise Grind Records. Believe it or not but this is the band’s first proper full-length after an already prolific career of just split EP’s. It is also perhaps some of their finest work to date as they have really turned up the dissonance of the guitar work (diminished fifths baby!) and added a few sludgy breakdowns into their already potent mix. Life may be suffering, but at least the soundtrack can rule sometimes.
