Blast Worship: Earthburner

Where they from?
Chicago, IL. I would feel remiss to not mention what happened last Tuesday here in the United States. It’s something on everyone’s mind and people seem to be having all sorts of reactions to it and it just feels like the turd in the punchbowl that I simply cannot in good faith ignore. I am of course talking about the Jets trading Mike Williams to the Steelers. Such a shame, he was never utilized correctly here and on Sunday he single-handedly scored more touchdowns than the entire Jets offense. THIS COUNTRY IS DOOMED!

Why the hype?
Well, well, well, what do we have here, a verifiable grindcore SUPERGROUP! It’s like the extreme metal equivalent of when David Bowie and Mick Jagger made that song together, but with BLAST BEATS AND DEATH GROWLS. Earthburner features member of Sanguisugabogg, Broken Hope and Napalm Death and it shows. The songs here are precise and very technically polished, you can really feel all the members genuine love for grindcore throughout the record. Musically it sounds to me like a mix of Lock Up and some of those later Napalm Death records but with extended grooves and breakdowns. I’m sure seeing this band live would lead me to losing even more teeth. And you know where you can do that? At Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest Denver on December 6-7!

Latest release?
Permanent Dawn, M-Theory Audio. This album has reminded me that despite its obsession with velocity, grindcore has always had the best breakdowns. Like, how can you not want to dislocate your shoulder listening to the end of ‘Suffer the Children?’ What a great outlet for focusing all the rage we all feel from last week’s events. GODDAMN JETS, CAN THEY NOT FUCK A SINGLE THING UP DURING MY FUCKING LIFETIME?
