Love In The Air (from Sunny Summer – 2018)
Previous Thoughts: “Its robust instrumental features a dramatic strings riff and explosive electric guitar, all in service to one of the most uplifting pop beats we’ve heard in some time. The girls are unshackled from any need to be K-pop cute, tackling the impressive melody straight-on with a balanced performance that gives each member a chance to shine.” (full review)
Updated thoughts: When I think of this song, the word that immediately comes to mind is “robust.” From production to melody to arrangement, everything feels like a full course without any scraps left on the table. It has a timeless appeal, hearkening back to past pop eras without feeling tied to any specific period. The vocal layering is gorgeous and echoes the fullness of the instrumental. I love the touches of electric guitar and bounding percussion. It’s a shot of musical optimism, comfortable enough in its own sense of joy that it doesn’t need to pursue any trendy diversions.
