K-Pop A-Z Review: GFriend – White

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Keep up with GFriend’s A-Z reviews here!

White (from Season Of Glass – 2015)

White opens with a super satisfying break beat — new jack swing adjacent without fully leaning into the genre. In this way, the song would be right at home in the 90’s – an era that has always fit GFriend very well. This overall vibe buoys an otherwise solid – but unremarkable – pop track. White succeeds on the draw of the group’s early work. It’s melodic and sharp. However, the song is definitely b-side (filler?) material, well-suited to padding out an album without drawing much attention to itself. Fortunately, I happen to have a strong bias toward the sound and this gives it an edge.
