Boy group Xodiac have largely flown under the radar despite releasing a handful of solid tracks. Time 2 Shine gives them the (soft) rock makeover that’s proven very trendy in new-gen boy groups. It won’t win any awards for originality, but there’s always room on my playlist for more melodic material like this.
Opening with piano, Time 2 Shine quickly transforms into a more dramatic arrangement. Electric guitar ushers in the percussion, which mixes a trendy skittering beat with heartier rhythms. There’s actually quite a bit happening within this production. I’m quite partial to the extra flourishes in verse two, though they don’t stick around nearly long enough.
Melodically, you’ve heard this song before. The hooks are sentimental and pleasant, surging at every moment you’d expect. The guys deliver them well, bringing plenty of emotion to the optimistic refrains. However, Time 2 Shine is never able to break free from its generic sound. And with more notable groups peddling this same style on a bigger budget, it’ll be hard for the song to stand out from the crowd.
