Spectre Divide Season 1: Flashpoint Preview – Twice as Nice

The world of Mountaintop Studios’ free-to-play 3v3 tactical shooter Spectre Divide is receiving a glow up for the ages as part of its massive Season 1: Flashpoint update.

From new locales like the multi-leveled Canal, to quality-of-life improvements, to even a console version, see what the newly released Spectre Divide Season 1: Flashpoint update is bringing to the table with our hands-on preview.

Spectre Divide Season 1 : Flashpoint Preview – Twice as Nice

New to the world of Spectre Divide? No need to worry – this labor of love has been designed for both diehard shooter fans and those whose last serious genre foray was 2007’s Halo 3 for the Xbox 360.

Latter’s me, by the way – an elder millennial at the core that owns up to one’s rustiness.

Despite our humility during the playtest, Spectre Divide’s emphasis on teamwork and strategy ensures that players can work together and grow as they “git gud.” There’s still the chance to get headshotted without a breather, but Spectre Divide rewards high-level play.

On that note, this tactical 3v3 shooter features tight controls that players have come to know and love with the genre. New to Season 1 is a sprint movement mechanic, allowing players to get to their final destination – and lead the opposing team to their final destination.

Season 1 of Spectre Divide was also designed with a controller, and the preview session encouraged – and things worked swimmingly! When Mountaintop Studios said this is a labor of love during the preview session, they meant it – and the hours logged the development team spent playtesting this title serve as a receipt of that.

However, Spectre Divide has an interesting hook with its Duality system, setting up an up-set attack. With it in place, one can control two bodies in real time and switch at will.

One has a puck in Spectre Divide that allows for strategic placement of one’s second body (dubbed a Spectre). Maps have been designed with this mechanic in place, including the new multi-leveled Canal map.

For those who have already been driven by Spectre Divide’s concept of Duality, Season 1 includes a new economy that ensures players will get the exact weaponry one is looking for. Players can also utilize an upgraded ping system, improved matchmaking, a region selector, and a number of other quality-of-life improvements.

Season 1 of Spectre Divide proves that Duality is twice as nice, featuring a number of quality of life improvements and an interesting hook that will appeal to pros and newcomers alike.

Feel driven by Duality? Be sure to check out Spectre Divide via its official Steam page.
