Five For Friday: February 28, 2025

Greetings, Decibel readers!

We’ve got a lot of heavily hyped-up releases for this week, so get ready for a major weekend of metal with the five great albums below.

Havukruunu – Tavastland

From our premiere of Tavastland:

And thus the epic saga continues on the band’s latest album, Tavastland, which Decibel is proud to present in it’s full glory here today. Fans of the band’s previous work will find a deep well of riffs, growls, and blasts to mine from, but will also find a band that has further tightened, honed and perfected its core sound. While I’ve liked everything the band has done in the past, I feel like the writing has taken a big step on this album. There’s just more of a “wow” factor in how the parts come together that’s immediately apparent, whereas the previous albums could take a little more time to sink in.

Insanity Cult – Κάθοδος

Good to hear from these guys again, as its been six years since we’ve been given an emanation from the Greek masters of grief and suicidal melancholy. The perfect response to anyone who tells you, “Happy Friday.”

Ritual Ascension – Profanation of the Adamic Covenant

Meanwhile. I like how deep these guys cut conceptually. No, they’re not just breaking the Christian covenant or the Abrahamic covenant. They’re going all the way back to the beginning, to the start of human existence. I have to imagine this would make a fitting soundtrack for Earth’s violent formation, as there’s something distinctly volcanic about death metal like this.

Sepulchral Curse – Crimson Moon Evocations

Exhilarating, hellish death metal from some of Finland’s finest purveyors of crushing darkness. This is the band’s follow up to 2023’s Abhorrent Dimensions.

Vacuous – In His Blood

From our stream of In His Blood:

Ultimately, In His Blood marks both a personal and musical triumph for Vacuous. The album is an early statement in a year filled with anticipated extreme music. The broadened scope and inspiration also shows a band honing its vision after five years together and stands as a fierce inflection point to guide their next five years.
