Where they from?
Houston, TX. I am writing this on St. Patrick’s Day 2025. Personally, I hate all holidays but I happen to hate this day the most. It’s nothing against the Irish, really. I just hate when people are happy for any reason, but I do have to pay respect to alcoholic drinking on a weekday. One of my favorite pastimes.
Why the hype?
Hey, do you like Insect Warfare? You better or else you can get the fuck up out of this column! The Texas grindcore GOATS last appeared live on stage way back in 2017 but FEAR NOT for their mortal remains have resurfaced in several delightful projects. Some of the ex-members formed the incredible Malignant Altar which played infinitely slower than anything grindcore-related but were mystical and mystifying in their own right. And now, behold, Dobber Beverly has returned with a new project, Terror Corpse! It might not be as grind-oriented as most of the bands we see in this column but good Lord does this shit rip. Think Malignant Altar mixed with serious helpings of old-school death and just a sprinkling of blast beats to keep grind freaks like yours truly satiated.
Latest Release?
Systems of Apocalypse, self-released. This might be the most impressive debut EP I’ve heard since, maybe ever? The vocals in particular are absolutely insane without ever coming across as cartoonish and the whole offering feels rather well-thought out and executed. If the debut is this good, just imagine how legendary the full length will be! Cheers to that!
