Where To Find All Onryo Shinbakufu Members In Assassin’s Creed Shadows

There are 12 members of The Onryo that Naoe needs to track down and assassinate in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. In this guide, we’ll show you where to find each of them so you can avenge Naoe’s father.

After some story progress, the true nature of The Onryo is revealed; from that point forth, they are called the Shinbakufu. This is the main quest line of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Ido Yoshihiro

This Onryo Samurai was a powerful warrior that originally stole the box from Naoe, and left her with a brutal scar.

Ido Yoshihiro is killed during the story, before the player unlocks The Onryo mechanic. As such, you do not need to track down and assassinate this member, he is already dead.

The Naginata

This member of the Shinbakufu becomes available to hunter after Naoe and Yasuke meet in the story and Yasuke is unlocked. The first quest for this assassination target is called An Evening in Otsu.

You need to talk to Aoi. She is a shrine maiden who lives in Oni, in the Otsu Upper District, West of the Mouth of Seta. You can find her at the map location shown above. After speaking with Aoi, head East to Seta Bridge. There’s a document underneath the second part of the bridge.

After these events, you will unlock the quest Against The Koga-ryu, to track down Shotei.

The clues for Shotei’s whereabouts are that he is in Omi, in the central area of Shimmering Fields, and fled East from Seta Bridge. You can find him just North East of the Koga Kakurega in Shimmering Fields.

The next step of the quest is to Meet Katsuhime. She can be found in Omi, South West of Mount Hiei, atop Enryakuji Temple.

You can find Shotei at a tower overlooking the castle. After the assault on the castle, you get a legendary weapon as a reward.

This also unlocks Katsuhime as an ally.

The Fool

You can begin hunting The Fool after you reach the part of the story where the Onryu become the Shinbakufu.

To start tracking down The Fool, you need to start the quest called The Bad Brother. The first objective is to meet Ise Sadatame. You can find him here, at Byodoin Temple in Yamashiro, North of Ogura Pond.

You then have two missions to choose from. Missing Missive, and Inside Help. We’ll start with Missing Missive

For the Missing Missive quest, you need to find the messenger. You can find him on a bridge, North West of Shoryuji, South East of Arashiyama. You will then need to travel a short distance to the Bamboo Grove.

You will find a man in the Bamboo grove, Gennojo, he is a thief. It doesn’t matter whether you try to assassinate him or speak with him, the outcome is the same. Naoe won’t kill him, and you get the letter.

Now we move to the Inside Help quest. For this quest, you need to Find Ujimasa. Kiyomizudera Temple can be found a short distance South East of Kyoto. You will then need to find and kill The Twisted Tree, a group of Samurai harassing merchants.

They are all located within the boundaries of Kyoto city. If you run around the rough locations given by the quest prompts, holding LT/L2, look for the blue auras, they are not hard to find.

The rest of the quest plays out in simple objectives, culminating in an aggressive assault on the castle.

This unlocks a new AC Shadows Ally, Gennojo.

The Mourner

The Mourner can be hunted once you have progressed far enough into the main story. The first quest is A Talk With A Lady, where you need to find Lady Oichi.

She can be found in Omi, South East of Goshiki Outlands, near the ruins of Odani. You need to use Yasuke. After the meeting, three more quests are unlocked. A Prayer For Omi, The Price of Rice, and Nagahama Black Powder. We’ll start with A Prayer For Omi.

You need to meet Lady Oichi. Her location is not hidden, it’s on the East side of Omi, North of Azuchi. Once that quest has finished, we move on to The Price Of Rice.

You need to find Kuma. Kuma is in a town in Omi, in Northern Shimmering Fields, near a canal at a lookout. After you meet Kuma, you’ll need to speak to some farmers and then find a drunken samurai. You will then need to find the corrupt daikan.

The corrupt daikan can be found in Omi, he lives in a town South West of Azuchi, in Daikan Mansion. Head into the mansion and take out the corrupt daikan. The final quest is Nagahama Black Powder.

You need to head to Nagahama and go to the Teppo Factory. Loot the document and then head to the boat. Take out the enemies, blow up the gunpowder, and then head to the final quest to assault the castle.

You need to regroup at the rendezvous point, which is in Omi, Eastern Shiotsu, at the shrine. Wipe out the enemies and then return to the rendezvous point.

The Wounded

This is one of the first quests you receive once you unlock the mechanic to hunt down the Onryo. The first quest is simple. Head to this location and help fight off the attack on the temple.

Once you have cleared the temple of enemies, you will get two more quests. First up, we find the Executioner for the quest The Killing Field

You can send a Scout to this location or just explore it yourself. You’ll find the Executioner at the objective marker shown above.

For the other quest, Stolen Faith, you need to find Mitsumune. You can find them a Nunobiki Falls, at this location shown on the map above.

You then head to the East to find the Statue of Shinran. You can find it in a chest inside the building shown above.

Once you return to Kyonyo, you can launch the attack on Amagasaki Castle. This is where you will find and kill The Wounded .

The Two-Faced

Akechi Mitsuhide can be hunted once you have discovered his treachery in the main story. This is one of the last members you take down. The quest here is called The Peasant who would be king, you need to meet with Lady Nene.

The first quest, Topple the Traitor, asks you to meet Hideyoshi. He has a camp in Yashimiro, in Yamazaki, South of Oyamazaki Village.

The Horseman

The Horseman becomes available to be assassinated once you have reached the part of the story where all other members have been killed. He is the last member of the Shinbakufu that Naoe and Yazuke needs to kill.

The Noble

Before you can hunt The Noble, you need to follow the main story until Naoe and Yasuke forge the new branch of the Hidden Blade.

The first stage of this quest is The Rengakai, you need to meet the Renga Master. You can find him just South of Himeji Castle in Himeji, in Harima. This opens two more quests, The Scent of War, and Losing Hand. We’ll tackle the Scent of War first.

The Scent of War requires you meet with Konishi Yukinaga, he can be found to the South of Himeji, at the port. Speak with him, and then deal with the merchants. I killed them all. You get a note telling you to head West to uncover clues about the shipment.

Head to the location and use LT/L2 to locate the blue aura quest items. Once that quest is complete, we move to Losing Hand.

You need to question Tokubei’s wife, Suzu. She is in Harima, in Western Himeji, and can be found at Tokubei’s House, shown on the map above. Save his wife and then head to the objective to confront Tokubei. The the final quest in the chain unlocks, A Peculiar Guest.

You can find the quest objective here, to the South West of the town. You will need to kill a Shinobi when you get there. You then loot a document and the next stage of the quest starts.

You can find Ukita Hideie in the South East corner of the city, at Itatehyozu Shrine. After his identity is revealed, you will need to report back and then start the assault on the castle.

This one is different to the others. You will need to track down 3 Infiltrators. They can be found on the locations shown on the map above. You get a legendary weapon as a reward

The Golden Teppo

This is the second quest you receive when you unlock the Onryo hunting feature. To start this quest chain, you need to visit the Gunsmith in Sakai.

This is where the Scout will locate the objective for the Searching Sakai quest. Eavesdrop on the Gunsmith and then either kill them or purchase the documents from them.

Once you have spoken with the Gunsmith, you need to find Imai Sokyu.

You will then have two choices of missions. Firstly, acquire the Kosode. You can find the merchant in the South West corner of Sakai. You will then need to kill some pirates to acquire some silk, before returning to have the Komode made.

Once the Komode is made move to The Perfect Gift quest, where you need to find a Tea Merchant. You can find them on the North edge of Sakai, near the river.

The rest of the quest plays out in a very easy-to-follow manner. There are some choices, but they don’t seem to make much of a difference. If you want to see the minor changes, check out our choices guides.

The Ox

The Ox is a target primarily meant for Yasuke to assassinate. As such, you need to wait until Yasuke is unlocked before he becomes available.

To start this quest chain, you need to complete the quest A Voice In The Anger, and find the Abott. You can find him at Tanjosan Myoyoji Temple, shown on the map above.

Once you have finished that quest, Astray is the next quest, where you must retrieve Ox’s invasion plan. It can be found in Hiraiyama Fort. Grab the documents and then return to Nakamura Tadashige.

Next, we move on to the Brothers in Arms quest. You need to find the Mysterious Ronin. You can find him North West of Miki, just over the river. When you arrive, he will be in combat. You will need to kill the enemies to progress. You will then need to travel West to Kanki Burned Fields, but this is easily reachable in-game.

The next quest is Of My Enemy. You need to find Hiromichi’s man, who is located in Kakogawa Estuary, West of Nakayama Peak. After the meeting, you need to find and kill Ox’s Lieutenant.

You can find Ox’s Lieutenant on a boat to the South of Takasago Shrine. If you cannot find a boat, swim for a short while and one will always appear nearby.

You then start the Broken Horn quest, which is the assault to kill the Ox.

The Wise

The Wise is another member of the Shinbakufu who becomes available to hunt once enough story progress has been reached. The first quest in this chain is called A Chance Encounter.

The clues for the objective to Find Fuyu are that she is in Yamato, located near Nara Heartland, and is the caretaker of Omiwa Shrine.

To find Fuyu, head to Nara Heartland, and travel South of the fast travel point there. After speaking with her, follow the objective markers to pray at each of the 3 shrines. This opens the next quest, A Chance Encounter

The clues to find Tsutsui Junkei are that he is a daimyo in Yamato, in a town near Koriyama Castle, and he’s at a Tea Master’s house. He can be found in the North West corner of Yamato, just South East of Koriyama Castle.

The opens up three new quests. The Lost Envoys, Restless Spirits, and Temple Stories. We’ll start with Restless Spirits.

You need to find the priests. They are in Western Yamato, they seek aid in Katsuragi, and they should be near an arena. You can find them at Katsuragi, on the Western edge of Yamato. Then head to the manor and find all the clues.

You then need to find and talk to Kojiro, who can be found at a bridge to the North East of Katsuragi. Then kill the Bandit Leader and clear the camp. That completes Restless Spirits.

Moving on to The Lost Envoys. You need to question the witnesses. They can be found in Yamata, they were in Mitsue, and were traveling to Hidden River. You can find the quest location in a small village just South West of the “H” in Hidden River. Find the clues and defeat the drunken warrior to progress.

Then head to Utano Tower to the South East to rescue the envoys. After rescuing the envoys, head North West to Uda Matsuyama Castle, you will find the Invitation at the building shown above.

You then need to meet with Lady Ayako. She can be found a short distance South East of Todaiji, North East of Nara Heartland. This moves to the final quest, Temple Stories.

You need to find and speak with Joken Hokkyo. He can be found in Northern Yamato, waiting at Todaiji Temple. After some cut-scenes and walking, you will need to retrieve the sacred scroll.

The clues for this tell you they fled West of Todaiji, towards Megalithic Vault, dressed as Akiyama soldiers. Head to the location, take out the guards, and grab the scroll. Then return to Lord Junkei.

After the scroll you attend the peace ceremony. It’s a bit obvious but accuse Joken Hokkyo, he is your target. You get a legendary weapon and also one of Rikyu’s Tea Bowls.

The Fox

The Fox is unable to be discovered until you have reached the part of the main story where Yasuke becomes available. The first objective is to meet with Nagahide. You can find Nagahide at the Nagahiden Estate, North East of Obama.

You will need to help him defeat some enemies, once you arrive. The next objective is to find Hong.

The clues are he has a stall in Wakasa, in Obama, and it’s on a street with red lanterns. You can find him inside his restaurant at the location shown above, in Obama, just over the bridge.

This then opens two more quests. Smuggler’s Gambit and Revenge. We’ll go for Smuggler’s Gambit first.

You need to track down Samemaru, who is in Wakasa, in Lake Suigetsu, and hides out in Hiruga Bay. We suggest bring Yasuke for this mission, as there are a lot of enemies but all weak. Once there, use the LT/L2 heightened sense to locate the two clues with the blue aura. Then we move to the Revenge quest.

You need to find Nagahide’s Cousin, who is in Wakasa, near Sotomo Gate, in Tsuruga Castle. His guards will escort you inside and you will get attacked by a large group of enemies. Another mission better suited for Yasuke.

Now you have The Music quest, to follow the biwa music in Wakasa, in Saifukuji Temple. He is on the West side of the temple, just outside the temple grounds, near the pond with Koi Fish. Once you’ve spoken with the musician, you need to return to Nagahide.

Once Naoe’s part of the mission begins, you will need to investigate The Fox’s house, shown above. Locate the two documents and Takeda Motoaki will appear.
