It’s been four years since the metal scene at large last heard from midwest blackened death metal outfit Throne (peep their last album, Pestilent Dawn, here) but the Jackson, Michigan horde are officially back. That Who Sat Upon Him, Was Death continues in the same vein as its predecessor, combining a love for acts like early Behemoth with the straightforward brutality of bands like Suffocation.
The end result is that Those Who Sat Upon Him is a whole lot heavier than Pestilent Dawn, the tight blast beats and propulsive riffs keeping things in motion through the album’s roughly 30-minute runtime.
“We wanted to focus on a more brutal approach with this new record while maintaining our blackened edge,” Throne tell Decibel about the new album. “We feel we achieved that with this release. A much heavier sound overall…”
Redefining Darkness will release Throne’s new album tomorrow, March 21, but you can hear it below now.
