Song Review: Apink – Tap Clap

Even though Apink’s annual anniversary releases aren’t promoted beyond a simple behind-the-scenes video, they’re still worth writing about based on the group’s stature alone. Unlike so many of their peers, Apink are still active fourteen (!) years after their debut. And, I appreciate that these celebratory singles aren’t the kind of drippy ballad most groups deliver to mark a milestone.

As its title suggests, Tap Clap is the exact opposite of a ballad. The song unveils a bounding rhythm and singalong hook that recalls the style of bright, fizzy material that was most popular when Apink were at their commercial prime. The song is nothing new or special, but by keeping things simple the ladies are able to squeeze everything they can from Tap Clap‘s familiar sound. Their vocals sound great as usual and the energy is unrelentingly upbeat. Some of today’s newer crop of girl groups could honestly take note!
