Florida noise combo Meatwound are not here to make friends, they are here to clobber you. And on album number four, Macho, they do that effectively and repeatedly over ten new tracks. These dudes—Ari Barros (guitar), Mariano Iglesias (bass/programming), Dimitri Stoyanov (drums), Daniel Wallace (vocals)—sound like Killing Joke fed through a meat grinder. There’s a sort of tribal underpinning to their relentless, unforgiving hardcore, made all the gnarlier by constant tension in the guitar and bass scrape and anguished vocal roar. Also, they are (clearly) not without a sense of humor and understanding that things in the world have gotten, uh, a little nutty, so we’re also presenting their solution to the world’s ills, a Macho candle. Check the video below.
Macho was recorded and mixed at Candor Recording by Ryan Boesch. It’s set for releases on vinyl on Boesch’s newly formed label, Threat Collection Records, and digitally via Pax Aeternum Digital on May 9. Place your preorder here or here.
