Track Premiere: Donella Drive – “Mindless Embryonic”

A couple of brothers with different last names—Aidan Edward Escalante (vocals/guitars) and Andrew Salazar (bass/backing vocals)—are the brainchildren behind new San Antonio outfit, Donella Drive, whose single, “Mindless Embryonic,” we’re premiering today. Over the course of seven minutes they take quite a musical journey (a la At the Drive-In) through post-rock mellowness, post-hardcore angst, a bit of groovy doom and some 90s alt rock passion, with strong, clear vocals leading the way. The pair are joined by drummer Steven Edward Rodriguez on the track, which is taken from the duo’s upcoming full-length, Axon.

Axon was engineered by Jack Landis Chisenhall and mixed and mastered by Chris Mora and is set for release on August 22. Place your preorder here.

Aidan Escalante had this to say about the new single:

“The song is about the loss of individuality, and a dystopian future where humanity is becoming disconnected from its own soul. It touches on ideas of surveillance, self-obsession through technology, and the fear of a future dominated by a cold, digital existence.”
