Track Premiere: Holy Scum – ‘Witches’

It’s been a few since we’ve heard from Holy Scum, the Manchester, UK and New York City-based outfit featuring Dälek producer Mike Mare on vocals but that’s about to change with new album All We Have Is Never. The follow up to 2022’s Strange DesiresAll We Have Is Never sees Holy Scum continue down the path of experimental, noise rock-adjacent compositions, like new tune “Witches.”

All We Have was recorded with every member of the band present in the studio, a first for the band, which allowed for a more collaborative approach to writing songs. It’s hard to classify exactly what style of music Holy Scum are playing, but it certainly sounds unique.

“The song came about from an idea the guys had thrown around in the rehearsal space,” Mare tells Decibel. “We probably recorded this one towards the end of our time in the studio, so we had really settled at this point. I think it encompasses so many aspects of what makes Holy Scum and rams it home all in just under three minutes. Chris [Haslam] had told me a story about how when he was a kid he thought a sandwich was actually a Sand Witch and that definitely got my mind moving lyrically. We also can’t deny the influence of Shaggy’s ‘It Wasn’t Me’ on this one.”

You can listen to “Witches” below. All We Have Is Never comes out on June 6, digitally and on wax.
