DC grind/powerviolence/punk duo Drivell are getting ready to put out a self-titled EP (following a self-titled album) and Decibel has the skinny on the latest track to come from it. “Sniping Kids as a Form of Self Defense” is a sub-one-minute blaster that gets in and out before you can fully take stock of the band.
“Sniping Kids” begins with a burst of stompy, fast hardcore before stretching out into slower, sludgier territory, building tension that ends in a noisy sample. In the context of the full EP, the new song is just a piece of the non-stop onslaught, but as just one piece, it’s a quick, jarring taste of what to expect.
“This new EP was born out of the deep seated frustration I’ve been feeling,” explains guitarist/vocalist Kevin T. “The song ‘Sniping Kids as a Form of Self Defense” specifically, is about our tax dollars going towards all the relentless spending on propaganda and weapons to manufacture public consent for a live streamed genocide against innocent human beings. Always being forced to “choose a side” between conservative / republican and liberal / democrat when we know full well both work in the interest of the wealthy and the only thing that will save the rest of us on the bottom is class solidarity. Plus a touch of sound bytes from my favorite cartoons and movies.”
You can listen to the new song below and pre-order it via To Live a Lie starting on June 6; you can also hear Drivel’s other music here.
