Five For Friday: June 27, 2025

Greetings, Decibel readers!

It’s a week of legends with the latest from Deadguy, Sodom and Lord Belial arriving to show us what artistic endurance really means! Oh, and I’d personally include Drawn and Quartered in that category as well, even if they’re not as well-known.

Cheers-

Deadguy – Near-Death Travel Services

We’re big fans of Deadguy here at Decibel, and that devotion is clear on the July issue (#249) which features the band on the cover. So go pick that up to learn more about the new album. We’re out of the special edition orange + light blue vinyl though. Sorry!

Drawn and Quartered – Lord of Two Horns

Well THIS is a pleasant surprise! I had no idea Drawn and Quartered had a new album coming out. I’m a rabid acolyte of these guys and their relentlessly dark and menacing form of death metal. For those of you who feel the same way, Lord of Two Horns deserves a solid spin or 10.

Lord Belial – Unholy Trinity

Long-running black metal warriors return to charge through the moonlight gate once more! Unholy Trinity brings you everything you’d expect from a confident, well-worn Swedish black metal band this far into their reign: melodic riffs, cutting vocals, compositions full of drama and grandeur, and an all-enveloping sense of dark romanticism.

Sodom – The Arsonist

Speaking of veterans. The great German masters operate like a hyper-efficient war machine, bringing the listener all the explosive energy the name of Sodom demands! Can’t wait to see these songs light up the pit the next time I see them.

Thanatorean – Ekstasis of Subterranean Currents

Black metal with lots of atmosphere, but like that of a cavern in a deep wasteland, rather than a bunch of trees or something.
