A K-pop act’s title track isn’t always the best song on their album, even if it’s the one most people will hear. Sometimes, b-sides deserve recognition too. In the singles-oriented world of K-pop, I want to spotlight some of these buried treasures and give them the props they deserve.
It’s been awhile since I’ve featured a buried treasure with the sentiment that “this should definitely have been the title track.” Overall, K-pop acts have been picking the right songs to promote in 2025 and honestly there just haven’t been that many extraordinary b-sides. NouerA are one of the few groups to spawn a “9” rated b-side in 2025 and they’ve done it again with Myself.
Full disclosure from me: a song with this sound is almost guaranteed to earn a “9” unless it does something really dumb. I just love this frothy, high energy house beat with a fully-sung, layered chorus. It’s a recipe that works incredibly well — especially during this time of year. I get that Myself might not adhere to NouerA’s concept as heavily as a title track should and I’ve actually come around to N (Number Of Cases)‘s jagged crunch quite a bit over the past few days, but if their agency is feeling generous and want to film a follow-up music video I can’t think of a better song to do it with. Myself is brisk, upbeat and incredibly fun. It confidently opens with its chorus, immediately recalling RIIZE’s Impossible from last year. The track could be more inventive in its execution, but like I said bias is strong with this genre and I just love hearing the energy. The song also scores bonus points for never dropping into some momentum-killing half-time trap breakdown.
