Not a lot is known about Blood Brain Barrier. They’re a two-piece consisting of vocalist Isabelle Tazbir and multi-instrumentalist Mrudul Kamble hailing from somewhere in Canada that plays blackened sludgy, doom metal. But Canada is a big place and a lot of bands are playing blackened sludgy doom metal these days. They don’t have a page on Metal Archives (as of yet) and when you type Blood Brain Barrier into Bing, be prepared to be overwhelmed with neurological terminology and diagrams that you likely won’t understand unless you’re a premed student. I did find this bit of descriptive wisdom somewhere online: “Windows Drenched In Red is a conceptual plunge into the psyche of a purposeless entity adrift between dimensions. Blending elements of black metal, ambient despair, and fractured melodies, the album chronicles the entity’s chaotic intrusion into the human realm. As it stirs unrest and distorts perception, it becomes a mirror to humanity’s own violent footprint across unseen, lesser realms. Each track is a window through which listeners glimpse the cycles of suffering we inflict and inherit. Yet, as the entity ascends beyond mortal comprehension, it too becomes trapped in the same existential void: a being without aim, reflecting the same chaos it once revealed. This is not just music — it’s a confrontation with the abstract, the unseen, and the inevitable loss of meaning in the search for higher ground.”
Pretty heady stuff, eh? When we found out that the band’s Windows Drenched in Red EP was set for release on the 29th of this month, we figured why not throw a premiere of it out into the ether and let Planet Metal get its ears on it in advance. We asked the band for a few words about their debut creation and this is what they had to say: “This EP is an honest expression of our combined musical experiences in the underground metal scene. Presented with an underlying theme of abstractness and its connection with real world, this EP brings influences from various sub genres of metal such as black metal, sludge and doom together in a four song, trance-inducing and heavy sonic trip. These songs have their own identity while still merging with the EP as a whole. There are some interesting song structures throughout this musical journey and they are mixed and mastered in a way that enables the listener into a trance while still keeping things heavy. Hope you all can groove to it!”
