Costa Rican stoner-doom outfit Crypt Monarch first introduced themselves to the world in 2021, using their debut album to tell the story of an undead king brought back from beyond the grave in order to slay his enemies. On their new album, Codex Pestilentia, they’re continuing the story, once again using their brand of stoned doom to do so.
Crypt Monarch’s latest single, “Terror From Above,” is the lead track from Codex Pestilentia and it’s a guaranteed hit for fans of the genre. The towering, slow riffs sound like they were coated in a thick layer of resin after recording and the yell-sung vocals feel descended from Sleep and their kin.
“‘Terror From Above’ is a slow stoner march into a world of peril,” Crypt Monarch say of the new song. “Heavy, distorted and epic leads that shatter through while telling of the first creatures encountered by the King and his army. Cruel harpies stalk their prey in disguise only to strike with full force from the skies — a fierce battle with mythical features and powerful spellcasters.”
“GIVE THEM DEATH!”
Codex Pestilentia is out on September 5 via Cognitive Discordance Records, Things From Beyond, Heavy Threads and Violence Records; you can view all formats and locations at their website.
