Philly duo Red Brick formally introduced themselves to the world in 2021 with their debut EP, Gastric. Since then, they’ve been hunkering down and lifting weights in preparation for the release of Thrown, their assbeater of a debut album. Red Brick’s first release as a duo, Thrown is lean and mean, and it’s available to stream below.
The album, which bears a photo of artist GRIMGRIMGRIM post-brain surgery last year, is a tight seven tracks, flowing from fight riff to breakdown to fight riff. The songs generally exist within the realm of sludge and hardcore (think Dopethrone, if Dopethrone listened to more Hatebreed), but Red Brick are happy to change it up on the album’s faster moments, like “Asphalt,” which draws from grindier influences.
“Finally you can consume our ode to letting rage overcome you, Thrown,” Red Brick tell Decibel. “If you’re tired of shitty, disingenuous people, money troubles, the incompetent, the narcissistic, the hateful, driving, the grief of growing older or the unbearable bitterness of doing everything they told you to only to wind up trapped like an animal in a life you can’t escape, this album is for you. Sometimes it’s the right time to crash out, we’re not here to tell you how to live your life.”
If you were waiting for permission to crash out, you can do so now. Thrown is out this Friday, July 25, on Horror Pain Gore Death.
