Track Premiere: Birth and Loss – “Birth and Loss”

Grind legend Takafumi Matsubara (Gridlink, Mortalized) returns with a vengeance in his latest forward-thinking project, Birth and Loss. Dropping their self-titled debut EP via Roman Numeral Records on August 29, the group’s six-track 7″ is an immaculately executed, razor-edged assault that both reveres and reinvents grindcore’s most chaotic traditions.

Today, Decibel proudly premieres the blistering title track—and its equally visceral music video, created by Finnish visual artist/musician Eeli Helin. The song is a maelstrom of pitch-perfect riffing, precision drumming, and wild-eyed vocal catharsis. Like Matsubara’s best work, it’s dark, fast, and emotionally dense, threading moments of tension, release, and beauty into barely two minutes of devastation.

The video’s rapid stroboscopic cuts and monochromatic imagery underscore the aesthetic vision of Birth and Loss—a record that seeks catharsis through duality, finding human truth in both chaos and calm. It’s music built for collapse and resurrection. For those already invested in the outer edges of grindcore, this is required listening. For newcomers, consider this your rude, gorgeous awakening.
