Mastodon founding member, guitarist and singer Brent Hinds died following a motorcycle crash on Wednesday night, August 20, Atlanta News First confirmed.
According the report, Hinds was killed when a “BMW SUV’s driver was going west on Boulevard when she failed to stop while turning left and hit the bike.” Hinds, who was 51, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mastodon and Hinds went their separate ways earlier this year, citing a mutual agreement. Hinds later refuted that and claimed he was kicked out of the band. At the time of publishing, Mastodon have not issued a statement on Hinds’ death.
Hinds played on eight Mastodon albums from the band’s Decibel Hall of Fame debut, Remission through 2021’s Hushed and Grim.
