Full Album Stream: Prayer Group –Strawberry

Richmond, VA noise rock enthusiasts Prayer Group have chosen an obscure format for their latest mini-album release, Strawberry, going with a vinyl 10″ record to contain their seven songs of musical abrasion. Strawberry is suitably adorned with an equally bizarre cover—a tot topped with a berry for a head, that’s definitely not a strawberry—that is a good representation of the quartet’s tension-filled, skronky rock. Fans of Big Black and ’90s AmRep sludge will find plenty to like here, as Prayer Group—Matt Voegel (vocals), Nate Dominy (guitar), Anthony Stout (drums), Carl Kranz (bass/ vocals)—do their best to disturb and damage with their sonic sturm und drang.

Strawberry was recorded by guitarist Dominy at Room 2B (with drums and some bass tracked with Ricky Olson at The Ward). The mixing was handled by Chris Compton, and mastering completed by Brad Boatwright at Audiosiege. It’s set for release on 10″ vinyl and digitally via Reptilian Records on August 29. You can preorder it here and here. And check out the live dates (posted below) planned following the release

The band had this observation about its new record:

“Strawberry is a weird kid of a record – a bit simple, stuck in an in-between size, and with some mood swings. It’s not sure why it’s here, and it’s pissed about it.”
