Philly death metal act Caesarean are relatively new to the scene, popping up last year with their rehearsal demo and playing a number of shows. They’ve struck again while the iron is still hot, releasing their new EP, Wretched Decrepitude, later this week on Horror Pain Gore Death. Ahead of its official release, Decibel linked up with Caesarean to give readers an advance stream of the album, which you can listen to now.
Wretched Decrepitude is firmly steeped in the old traditions of extreme metal, drawing heavily from classic death metal and extreme thrash, citing Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed, Carcass, Kreator and Demolition Hammer as influences. In addition to the gory, thrashy instrumentals, Caesarean employ a three-vocal approach, which keeps things exciting.
When asked about the album, Caesarean affirmed their approach to songwriting and why they chose to release on a hometown label.
“Wretched Decrepitude delivers six tracks of brutal riffs, technical drums, thunderous bass and grim lyrical arrangements to accommodate three unique vocal styles. Our inspiration ranges from ‘80s Teutonic thrash to ‘90s deathgrind, pushing the style forward into the bleak future.
“HPGD was the right label for this release. Mike has put out brutal and evil bands from across the world while maintaining a presence in the Philadelphia underground.”
If your favorite Cannibal Corpse record features Chris Barnes, you need to listen to Wretched Decrepitude. Peep it below via Bandcamp.
