When we put The Design Files Magazine together, we choose homes that are the best of the best. Of course, we always look for range, and variety — we want to celebrate how Australians really live, whether that be in an inner city apartment, a suburban family home, or a sprawling regional retreat.

And, Issue 03 really does have it all. We visit the relaxed coastal pad of The Bachelor Australia’s Matty Johnson and Laura Byrne; the soulful family home of our art director Annie Portelli, lovingly (and painstakingly) renovated with her husband Simon Harris; and the eclectic 1960s abode of creative couple Nasim and Jan Köerting.

You’ll also find the creative homes of maker and floral artist Hattie Molloy, and her neighbour, landscape architect and ceramic artist Pip Byrne, inside a charming 1940s art deco complex; a colourful brick duplex renovation by WOWOWA; and a classic coastal garden that’s been given a colourful and naturalistic twist by landscape designer Tim Pilgrim.

Plus, we explore the beauty and balance of multigenerational living, and discover 10 Indigenous art centres where you can shop artwork online.

And so much more — this issue really is full to the brim!

Issue 03 will be available in stockists nationwide from October 13th, 2025. Find the FAQs here.
