Track Premiere: Cemetery Moon – “The Black Keep”

Cemetery Moon don’t just dabble in black metal tropes — they storm the gates and claim the throne. Born as a one-man project in Connecticut, the band has since expanded into a full unit, honing its craft onstage and in the studio with a blend of raw ferocity and cinematic scale. On October 24, Cemetery Moon return with Dominion of Ashes, their second full-length — a 10-track descent into shadow, fire and ruin.

Today, Decibel unveils the premiere of The Black Keep,” the album’s closing track and ultimate statement of purpose. Over nearly seven minutes, Cemetery Moon conjure everything that defines their sound: soaring melancholy guitar lines, Apparition’s spectral vocals, the quake of Astoroth’s bass, Usurper’s relentless drum assault, and the dual guitar interplay that feels like dueling dragons tearing across the sky.

Frontman Apparition frames it simply:

“‘The Black Keep’ is the ultimate expression of our approach to black metal. We seek to write evocative songs that contain memorable, melancholy guitar lines backed up by striking vocals and powerful bass and drum-work. ‘The Black Keep’ has all of that on clear sonic display, pulling the listener in and taking them to faraway realms of mystery and darkness. If I had to choose one song to introduce audiences to our music, it would be this one.”

Dominion of Ashes runs the gamut of moods and approaches — from the heroic sweep of “Triumphant Spirit” to the death metal savagery of “Cultus Mortem,” to the progressive twists of “Temporal Bloodletting.” But “The Black Keep” ties it all together, leaving no doubt that Cemetery Moon’s dominion has only just begun.

Dominion of Ashes arrives October 24. Until then, step inside the dark kingdom and stream “The Black Keep” below.
