Gamers Heroes

Conqueror’s Blade just kicked off “Sacrum Romanum” – congrats!

What went into its design, and what made you choose this setting?

Conqueror’s Blade

Thank you!

The design for a new season often begins with a slight “gameplay fantasy.” For Sacrum Romanum, that fantasy was the image of a stalwart line of knights, holding firm against all odds.

We wanted to translate the feeling of being that immovable object into gameplay. From that central idea, we built everything else.

The unit mechanics focus on defensive stances and powerful, charged-up abilities. The armor designs emphasize heavy plate and a sense of weight.

The choice of setting naturally flowed from that core design goal, as the Holy Roman Empire is the perfect historical canvas for this “wall of steel” fantasy.

Conqueror’s Blade has a fantastic community across Discord and other platforms!

What has it been like interacting with the fans, and what are some of your favorite fan stories?

Yiqui Bai

It’s humbling and incredibly motivating.

Seeing the world we’ve built come alive through our players’ actions is the ultimate reward for any designer.

As designers, our ultimate goal is to provide a framework where players become the storytellers.

My favorite moments are when I see this happen. I once saw a player-created video that was a tribute to a “fallen” House that had been defeated in a Territory War. It was edited like a real historical drama, honoring their past victories and vowing to return. They took our game mechanics and used them to create their own saga of loss and resilience.

That’s when you know you’ve built more than a game; you’ve built a stage for human drama.

Gamers Heroes

On that same note, I loved seeing the pictures from August’s CB Community|Feast of Conquerors 2025 celebration in Cologne!

What are some of everyone’s favorite moments from the event?

Yiqui Bai

Those real-life events are invaluable for the design team. You get to see the human element behind all the gameplay data.

The moment that stands out to me was watching two players, who lead rival Houses and are bitter enemies in-game, enthusiastically debating unit strategy over a drink.

In the game, they are adversaries, but in person, you see the shared respect and passion for the game’s systems. It’s a powerful reminder that we are designing for people.

Taking that human perspective back to the studio helps us make better, more empathetic design decisions. It’s no longer about nerfing ‘Player X’; it’s about understanding the experience of a person who has invested their time into mastering a certain playstyle.

Gamers Heroes

The 2025 Conqueror’s Blade League (CBL) Global eSports Tournament made a huge impact earlier this year!

What are some of your favorite moments from the tournament, and what can you tell us about the 2026 CBL tournament at this time?

Yiqui Bai

From a design perspective, the CBL is the ultimate test of our game’s strategic depth. It’s where the meta is forged and broken.

My favorite moments are when a team defies the expected strategies and wins with a completely novel approach. It proves the game has the strategic flexibility we strive for.

Watching the top players also gives us crucial data. It shows us which units are over-performing under extreme pressure and which strategies have no effective counters.

This directly informs our balancing priorities for future updates. For 2026, our design goal is to create a format that further highlights player skill and allows for even more diverse strategies to shine.

Gamers Heroes

Conqueror’s Blade features advanced game engine optimization that allows for stable frame rates across all devices – truly impressive!

What went into this title’s optimization?

Yiqui Bai

Thank you for highlighting that.

In our design philosophy, scale is a core feature.

The epic feeling of hundreds of soldiers clashing is fundamental to *Conqueror’s Blade*. Because of this, performance isn’t an afterthought—it’s a foundational design pillar.

Every new unit, visual effect, or system we design is immediately stress-tested against this question: “How will this perform when 30 players are using it at once in a siege?”

This constraint forces us to be creative and efficient, delivering spectacular visuals without sacrificing the smooth, large-scale battles our players expect.

It’s a continuous, challenging, but rewarding process.

Gamers Heroes

Finally, what can you tell us about the future of Conqueror’s Blade?

I saw that Conqueror’s Blade will feature a brand-new Halloween event at the end of October!

Yiqui Bai

The future is about deepening the world and constantly challenging our players.

But it’s also about having fun. Events like our upcoming “Weeping Night” for Halloween are a perfect example.

From a design standpoint, these events are our chance to “break our own rules” in a fun, temporary way. We can experiment with more fantastical ideas—like supernatural enemies or magical effects—that wouldn’t fit into the main game’s historical setting.

It serves as a creative release for the team and offers our veteran players a fresh, unique experience.
