Album Premiere: Thron — Vurias

Black metal thrives on transformation, and Germany’s Thron have never stood still. Since their self-titled debut in 2017, the band have expanded their scope with each release—culminating in 2023’s Dust, which carved a mark across both underground and festival stages from Hellfest to Summer Breeze.

Now, with Vurias (out October 31 via Listenable Records), THRON unveil their most ambitious vision yet. Rooted in black metal’s essence of fury and transcendence, Vurias adds new colors to their sonic palette: vintage ’70s synthesizers, surges of saxophone, and atmospheric textures that amplify rather than soften their attack. The result is nine tracks of haunting grandeur and relentless drive, where serrated riffs and melodic ferocity intertwine with spectral ambience.

The album’s cover, created by master artist Daniele Valeriani, mirrors the music within—dark, evocative, and towering. Tracks like “Astral Materia,” “Hubris’ Crown,” and “Griefbearer” push THRON further into shadowed realms, while “Ungemach (Stilles Ende)” and the exclusive bonus track “The Metamorph’s Curse” highlight their evolving balance of atmosphere and aggression.

As the band put it: “Vurias’ is the manifestation of wrath, spirit, and transformation—a fire that consumes and creates.”

Vurias arrives October 31 on Listenable Records. Pre-orders are available here.
