Seems like a fitting time of year for a label/webzine called Witching Buzz to release a tribute, Spaceship Landing, to stoner rock icons Kyuss. Allow us to give you a full and complete taste of said tribute in its 20-song glory. This is not what you would call a “star-studded tribute,” as it’s largely populated by underground acts from around the globe that cover a broad musical spectrum. That is to say, this isn’t about rote stoner metal recreations of the desert rockers’ greatest hits. And it’s all the better for that fact.
One of our favorite things about Spaceship Landing is that the songs are arranged chronologically, in the order that they were originally released by Kyuss. So Aussies Amammoth kick things off with “Son of a Bitch” from Wretch, we next get a swack of tracks from Blues for the Red Sun and the final 11 are split between Welcome to Sky Valley and …And the Circus Leaves Town, with Frenchies Mercure finishing off with “Size Queen.”
