Song Review: tripleS msnz moon – Cameo Love

In keeping with their enormous group configuration, tripleS have blitzed us with an equally enormous fleet of comebacks today. “msnz” is a “universe” within tripleS (their words, not mine) with four “dimensions,” each of which has released their own song and music video. I rarely have enough stamina to write about four tracks from even my most favorite artists, so I’ll be giving each song its own mini-review today.

Sub-unit moon consists of members Sullin, SoHyun, JiYeon, Kaede, ShiOn, and Lynn and they’re releasing Cameo Love today. Of all the unit songs, this one feels most firmly within the current girl group trend (ie: “beigepop”). Its instrumental is muted, its percussion skitters without much force and its melodies are insistently wispy. This sound didn’t do much for me even when it felt fresh. At this point in the trend’s life cycle, it barely registers. It’s like listening to the “musak” version of K-pop and no amount of sing-song repetition will counter that lack of energy.
