In keeping with their enormous group configuration, tripleS have blitzed us with an equally enormous fleet of comebacks today. “msnz” is a “universe” within tripleS (their words, not mine) with four “dimensions,” each of which has released their own song and music video. I rarely have enough stamina to write about four tracks from even my most favorite artists, so I’ll be giving each song its own mini-review today.
Sub-unit neptune consists of members SeoYeon, NaKyoung, DaHyun, Nien, Kotone, and SeoAh and they’re releasing Fly Up today. They’re also the inheritors of tripleS’s beloved “la la la” schtick, forging much of the chorus around that repetitive sound. I’m not a “la la” fan myself, but this time the refrain is tethered to a series of more exciting melodies and (even more importantly) a bounding pop beat. Fly Up keeps its energy high throughout and this helps the song zip along without getting mired in any of its weaker points. I love the touches of exclamatory brass during the chorus and despite a short running time the track builds to a satisfying finale.
