Interview: Biohazard’s Evan Seinfeld on New Album and Reuniting the Classic Lineup

New York City hardcore institution Biohazard have been on a tear since reuniting with the classic lineup—Seinfeld, Billy Graziadei, Bobby Hambel and Danny Schuler—including an appearance at Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest: Philly, performing Urban Discipline, and a new album, Divided We Fall.

Hot on the heels of their new album, Decibel chatted with Seinfeld about the band’s new album, how they got the classic lineup back together and what it’s like to be firing on all cylinders in 2025.

This album is your first in over a decade and reunites the classic lineup. How did that happen? Were you guys in touch already or was there a decision to get the band back together?

It kind of came together in pieces and stages, we had all let this go for over 10 years so everyone had time to think. I dont think any of us had the idea, it kind of just happened.

You recently revisited Urban Discipline at Decibel Metal and Beer Fest, as well as some other classic-lineup shows. Did going back to the start of Biohazard inspire the direction Divided We Fall took?

Touring with the OG lineup and just playing songs from the first 3 albums definitely set the tone for Biohazard doing what we do best—bouncy aggressive riffs, bursting fast hardcore parts, big metal colossal breakdowns and simply old-school Biohazard.

The lead single is called “Fuck the System” and the record is called Divided We Fall. Is this Biohazard vocalizing an opinion about the politics and social issues in the United States?

It’s more about not taking the bait and arguing over the same shit no one has control over. Keep us medicated, unhappy with the way things are and divided, we are easy to conquer. Personally I’ve been living outside of the US for over four years and have found not everyone in the world is focused on what is “wrong.” That’s the matrix mindset. Once you free your mind, you can prioritize your own issues rather than latching on to what they are broadcasting on the “bad” news…

What did the writing process for Divided We Fall look like? Were these all new ideas or were there older tracks and ideas you’d been sitting on?

These were all new ideas inspired by the Biohazard sound and ethos on our “defining moment” albums…. Producer Matt Hyde urged us not to try and reinvent the wheel or fix what wasn’t broken, only the four of us can make a timeless classic Biohazard album…the end result [is] Divided We Fall.

You’re on tour with Onyx and younger bands Bayway and Swollen Teeth. What’s it like to hit the road with newer bands that were probably influenced by Biohazard?

Touring with younger bands keeps us connected to the scene and the how the newer generations interpret hardcore, metal, punk, hip hop whatever. Onyx is from our era so that was organic as fuck.

How have things changed in the hardcore scene since Biohazard formed, for better and for worse?

I think Hardcore has evolved and taken some interesting turns. You can see the evolution and fortunately for Biohazard, it’s bigger and more united than ever. Looking forward to playing with our new friends we have been making in bands like Turnstile, Knocked Loose, Haywire and more, while also excited to give the people what they want and get out there with the other godfathers like Agnostic Front, Sick of It All, Madball, Hatebreed and more. Let’s build community—other bands hit us up, let’s collab!
