Mumbai, India DM brutalists Gutslit self-released their latest single, “I Berzerker,” recently—their first new music since 2023’s Carnal full-length—and are now introducing the accompanying video, a black and white (mostly) performance video shot in what looks to be a rehearsal or recording studio. The four minute whirlwind of over-the-top, aggro death metal reveals the quintet—Aditya Barve (vocals), Gurdip Singh Narang (bass), Aaron Pinto (drums), Aditya Swaminathan (guitar), Ishwar Hariharan (guitar)—rampaging through a furious, technical pastiche of grotesque riffs and even uglier vocals. The basic, but impactful, video was directed by drummer Pinto, under his alias “Kidsquidy.” (He’s also responsible for the cover of the single, below.)
“I, Berzerker” was recorded at Gray Spark Studio (drums) and Altar Studio (guitars and bass). Engineering was handled by Saurabh Lodha, with vocals engineered by Ashwin Shriyan. Mixing and mastering were completed by Mendel bij de Leij (ex-Aborted). The track is currently available on all streaming platforms.
The band offered this description of its brand new track:
“’I, Berzerker’” came together really instinctively. As bands grow older, it’s easy to start overthinking or pulling back, and we wanted to do the exact opposite. The idea was to write something fast, aggressive, and free—no filters, no safety net. The berzerker became a simple way to express that feeling of being let loose and going all in. It’s a fictional story on the surface, but it reflects where we’re at right now as a band.”
