For Sale: A Striking Sunshine Coast Home With Spectacular Views

On The Market

19 Amani Place, Maroochy River, cascades down the steep hillside.

The 15-metre lap pool has a waterfall edge and spa.

The kitchen features a quartzite island bench with solid brass legs.

A skylight and floor-to-ceiling glass sliders ensure natural light floods the space.

A rear deck and bbq area is accessed via the other end of the kitchen.

A two-way fireplace divides the kitchen and dining from one of the living rooms.

One of four bedrooms in the home.

Even the bathrooms get a view!

From the deck, the couple watch weather change, the sun rise and set, and birds soar in the sky.

This striking Sunshine Coast home, perched high above the Maroochy River, makes the most of its spectacular location, with uninterrupted views stretching across farmland, a reserve, and the hinterland.

Designed and built by Bobbie and Edward Murphy, co-directors of Foundation Homes, the home has been their sanctuary — and now, it’s ready for its next chapter, having just hit the market.

The couple first discovered the steep block while living in Maleny, Sunshine Coast Hinterland, and commuting daily down the range for work. Craving more time to enjoy life — and lured by the promise of coastal proximity — they began searching closer to Coolum.

While other blocks came and went, none compared to this site: elevated, expansive, and bursting with possibility.

On their first visit to the site a dramatic thunderstorm rolled in across the valley. Lightning visible as far as Byron Bay sealed their connection to the land; ‘We absolutely love sitting and watching the storms roll across the valley,’ Edward explains.

‘There’s no need for a TV here,’ he says. ‘Every aspect changes constantly.’

Before construction began, Bobbie and Edward lived in the existing studio on the property, spending years walking the block, studying the light, weather and landscape, and imagining what could be built at its highest point.

Both raised in the country — and having met on a vast cattle station in the Gulf of Carpentaria — space and openness were non-negotiable. Here, they found a rare combination of rural calm, protected surrounds and proximity to beaches, shops and work.

The couple were determined to push beyond the basic plans inherited with the purchase of the property. Working alongside local building designers Aboda Design Group, they refined a home where every room captures a view. The brief was simple: bring the outside in.

The build itself was not without its challenges. The terrain rises 40 metres from street to homesite, requiring early construction of a heavy-duty concrete driveway. Materials were ferried uphill by telehandler, earthworks tackled by the couple themselves on weekends, and excavated rock repurposed into garden beds.

A late addition, the 15-metre pool helps to soften the boundary between architecture and landscape, in addition to hiding the below neighbours from site.

Inside, standout features include off-form concrete walls, a dramatic leathered quartzite kitchen benchtop, and a master ensuite that balances raw concrete with bold wallpaper and views into the native garden.

Now softened by established landscaping and native plantings, the home feels settled. Selling was never about leaving something behind, but moving forward.

Bobbie says, ‘Whilst we will miss this space, we are happy someone else will experience it.’
