In true old-school punk fashion, Oslo, Norway metallic hardcore quartet Feral Nature are staunchly DIY. They didn’t hire a publicist to get their band on Decibel‘s radar, they just reached out directly to a certain writer that clearly has an affinity to what they’re laying down. While their DIY approach might be old-school, the band’s sound on its new EP, Cradle of Twigs & Bone is a bruising and complex mash-up of tweaked-out, heads-down hardcore and punch-in-the-face metallic sounds. There’s definitely a Refused influence here with the band’s injection of dynamic tension and its atonal attack. This foursome—Selma Bahner (vocals), Robert C.A. Hamilton (guitar/vocals), William Morris (bass/vocals), Mathias Myren (drums)—though are forging their own furious path, with the contrasting male-female vocals of Bahner and her bandmates and short, rabid songs fueled by pure adrenalin and rage.
Cradle of Twigs & Bone was engineered and mixed by Rob Hamilton at Eureka Soundworks, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. It’s set for release on February 4. “Cradle of Twigs & Bone is a collection of our oldest and newest ideas. It’s a marriage of the truly disgusting and tragically beautiful things in our world. It’s a declaration of intent. Since planting our feet in 2024 with ‘Unleash’ and Rituals, we’ve done everything as DIY as possible and this is no exception. From writing to production to artwork, everything we do is an evolution of our voice as a band.”
