Full Album Stream: Fossilization – Advent of Wounds

Emerging once more from the abyssal depths of the underground, Fossilization return with Advent of Wounds, a suffocating descent into death metal extremity that sharpens every weapon the Brazilian duo has wielded so far. Bleak, crushing and utterly claustrophobic, the album moves with frantic, inexorable force—its rhythms hammering relentlessly as riffs coil and collapse in a maelstrom of death, doom and blackened chaos.

Where 2023’s Leprous Daylight established Fossilization as a formidable presence within the modern death metal underground, Advent Of Wounds pushes deeper into misery and brutality alike. The album drags the listener into a chasm where anguish and violence entwine, channeling both the suffocating weight of classic death metal and the funereal melancholy of early doom—without ever loosening its grip.

V., who handles guitars, bass and vocals, explains that the album began taking shape immediately after Fossilization’s late-2024 tour with Father Befouled, marking a turning point in his songwriting process.

“I knew I’d have to rethink my approach to songwriting, especially after years of writing with Paulo’s drumming style in mind. Life took us in different directions, so I opened myself up to new ideas and let that guide the creation of these tracks.

From the start, my goal was to make an album even more brutal than Leprous Daylight—from sheer death metal violence to the miserable melancholy of the doom-laden spirit of early Anathema, Paradise Lost and Katatonia. You can also hear many black metal influences across the record. The opening riff of ‘Disentombed and Reassembled by the Ages’ is a direct nod to one of my all-time favorite bands, Antaeus.

This time, I also wanted a new direction in the mix and master, so we worked with Gabriele Gramaglia. For the first time, the artwork features a painting instead of an illustration, created by the incredible Guang Yang.”

The sonic shift is immediately apparent. Gramaglia (Cosmic Putrefaction, Turris Eburnea, Vertebra Atlantis) delivers a mix that feels both cavernous and surgically cruel, giving every riff maximum density without sacrificing clarity. Guest vocals from Justin Stubbs (Father Befouled, Encoffination) on “Scalded By His Sacred Halo” further amplify the album’s ritualistic dread.

Formed in 2020 by members of sludge/death/doom juggernauts Jupiterian, Fossilization have steadily carved out their own oppressive identity through releases like He Whose Name Was Long Forgotten, their split with Ritual Necromancy, and Leprous Daylight. With Advent Of Wounds, the band confirms that evolution doesn’t mean restraint—only a deeper commitment to total sonic devastation.

Advent Of Wounds arrives February 13, 2026 via Everlasting Spew Records, with Fossilization set to bring the album to the stage during their European tour with Phobocosm in August.
