Off we go to Italy, where the desert rock vibes are strong with the appropriatelty named psych-sludge outfit Desert Collider, who are introducing their new track, “ThumpeRRR,” off their upcoming full-length, Generation Ship: Endless Drift Through Infinity. It’s everything the the overly long title of the album promises, a wonderland of lazy, fuzzed-out riffs, mind-tweaking sonic explorations and sci-fi weirdness. And the blissed-out heaviness these dudes—Federico Costanzo (guitars/vocals/percussion/synths), Federico Gianfanti (vocals/synths), Manuel Colucci (bass), Andrea Casagranda (drums/percussion)—are laying down feels like an Italian Kyuss-Hawkwind mash-up.
Generation Ship: Endless Drift Through Infinity was produced, engineered and mixed by Andrea Cola and Desert Collider at StoneBridge Studios, Cesena, Italy. Mastering was done by Karl Daniel Lidén. It’s set for release on CD, vinyl and digitally on March 6 via Small Stone Records. Place your preorder here.
Guitarist Federico Costanzo offered this regarding the new single:
“‘ThumpeRRR’ is built and inspired by the Dune universe. It opens immediately with a fast, driving tempo and hard-rock–leaning riffs maintained as a bird’s eye shot above the desert planet. Intertwined vocals appear throughout and generate a call-and-response effect, duelling in overlap with the narrations. Midway, everything drops into a suspended section where distant guitars manifest in the silence of the desert. The thumper is placed: rhythm, sand, quakes. As the tension builds up, synths and a pulsing choir let the song coil tighter and tighter, gradually layering back in until the ending peaks with the inevitable rise of the sandworm: sacred, ancient, colossal, unstoppable.”
