Where they from?
A Coruna, Spain. Whats up with the NHL scheduling these random afternoon games on Monday? Just checked my phone to see that L.A. and Columbus are tied at three heading into the third period. Dude, I just got off work, I am not emotionally prepared for Darcy Kuemper to sabotage my fantasy team this early in the day. Give me an hour or two for fuck’s sake.
Why the hype?
Spain’s finest and most legendary grindcore unit have decided to mark their 25th anniversary (Jesus, where does the time go?) with an EP that brings the band back to their rudiments, namely concocting whirling dervishes of grindcore mixed with splatter-thrash that turn on a dime. Nashgul are one of the few bands to appear in this column that would appeal just as much to the hardcore Terrorizer crowd as they would fans of Municipal Waste and Creepsylvania’s own Ghoul. Almost like it’s worth it missing the L.A. Kings shitting the bed in the middle of the day to listen to ‘em.
Latest Release?
Santa Cruz Session, self-released. This aforementioned EP contains everything we love about longform grindcore: mountains of thrash and D-beats punctuated with eviscerating single-pedal blasts and, of course, cheesy horror movie samples. I could easily see these songs setting fire to basement venues around the world.
