With help from a ‘dream team’ of designers, the owners of this Fairfield home have created their own slice of Palm Springs in Melbourne’s inner suburbs.

Now a luxurious three-bedroom home inspired by mid-century modern architecture, 60A Park Crescent has come a long way since vendors Peter and Rose first purchased it back in 2018.

‘The house was very run-down. We had to do a mini renovation just to make it liveable. We painted all the inside, put in an IKEA kitchen, and covered the tiled floors with laminated timber,’ Peter says.

But a few years later, they got the chance to execute their true vision: demolishing the existing property to make way for a new single-storey build with a pool.

The couple engaged local architect Fiona Poon and McKerlie Builders to bring their ideal family home to life on the 860-square-metre block, located close to leafy parks, the Fairfield Boathouse, and the Yarra River trails.

From the street, hit-and-miss brick screens and flat rooflines set the tone for the retro-style material palette inside. Robust masonry walls are paired with warm-timber joinery, as skylights and expansive windows flood the home with natural light.

Two bedrooms are placed at the front of the floor plan, alongside essential functional additions like the double-car garage and study, followed by the sweeping scale of the open-plan living area.

The kitchen is well equipped, with two dishwashers, two ovens, and a large marble island bench, as sliding glass doors capture views of the expansive backyard.

‘Our favourite feature of the home is the amount of light we get in every room,’ Rose adds.

‘We have a north-facing backyard, which showcases a 12-metre pool, an Escea fireplace that’s also a barbecue/pizza oven, and a large deck area for entertaining. We have a log fire in the living area that gives us a lovely, cosy feeling during winter.’

Meanwhile, the main bedroom is nestled privately towards the rear, providing direct access to step out into the native gardens.

Despite being an excellent homage to the architecture of the past, the all-electric house is also designed for the future; featuring solar panels, Tesla batteries and EV charging.

The best part is, the new owners can move in and don’t have to change a thing!

60A Park Crescent, Fairfield, VIC 3078 is listed for sale with James Labiris and Liz Walker from Nelson Alexander Ivanhoe. It will go to auction on Saturday March 21 at 11.30am.
