Boy group Xodiac are coming up on their first year anniversary this April, and what better way to celebrate than a pleasant pop track with the airy ease of a fan song? Longtime readers will know I usually equate “pleasant” with “boring,” and this really comes down to time management. If I only had five songs in my music library, I’d probably be content with a pleasant pop track. But with so much compelling music emerging from various regions and industries, I rarely have time for pleasant.
Heyday fits squarely within this realm, taking cues from the easy-listening trend currently steering elements of K-pop. It’s buoyant and melodic and continually wafts along with smooth edges and hazy listlessness. Apart from an ill-conceived second verse breakdown, Heyday offers an undiluted shot of cotton candy fluff. Even the vocals are light as a feather. A bit of electric guitar lends texture to the climax, but otherwise this is charmingly forgettable.
