Song Review: Yerin – Wavy

Yerin has been GFriend’s most prolific soloist, dropping an album every year since 2022. Her light pop sound isn’t completely dissimilar from her former group, though the music keeps its ambitions pretty slight. New single Wavy continues her solo evolution, capturing a late-summer burst of energy.

Wavy might be the best fit for Yerin yet. Her vocals sound stronger and more assured than ever and the song’s brisk tempo highlights her upbeat persona. Its frothy post-disco sound is pleasant and unobtrusive, forming a slick backbone for Wavy‘s airy melodies. Touches of brass give the chorus oomph, while a post-chorus stands as a memorable highlight. Nothing about the track reinvents the genre or feels unique to Yerin as an artist, but every element is well-calibrated to forge a blast of sunshine that’s sure to get your head nodding. It actually reminds me of something IZ*ONE or WJSN might have recorded several years ago.
