La Pam Pam (from Fallin’ Light – 2019)

Previous Thoughts: “The first few moments of La Pam Pam are absolutely divine. Eunha delivers a gorgeous solo that opens the track on a mysterious note. I don’t think the higher part of her register has ever been used this effectively before.” (from a 2022 retrospective review)

Updated thoughts: Yeah, that introduction is pure magic. At its best, La Pam Pam sounds as if it could have been ripped from a stage musical. There’s a delicate theatricality that makes each moment compelling. The titular hook is the star, but the song goes beyond that, offering a full chorus and sweeping verses that shift and bend at the whim of the ornate instrumental. This is a specific K-pop sound we just don’t hear anymore, and that’s a real shame.
