An Age Undreamed Of… by The Cimmerian
The initial offering from the LA doomy thrashers combines sludgy riffs with historical and fantastical themes.
“I pull a lot of influence from my studies in theology and anthropology,” says bassist/vocalist Nicholas Rocha. “I focused on comparative religion and the cultural development of religion starting from Asia and then moving toward the Middle East and the eventual West. There’s certainly tons of mythology and lore to pull from; a lot of esotericism and mysticism eventually got swooped up by the bigger religions. There’s also an element of historical fiction. One huge, obvious influence is Robert E Howard, who wrote all of the Conan the Barbarian stories. The title is another obvious reference to his work. I also love the Tarzan stories, John Carter, the Berserker series, and anything along those lines. Beowulf and Grendel are fantastic, as is the Knights of Arabia story. I’m kind of all over the place, but it all tends to fall in line once I start writing lyrics.”
