Album Premiere: Maceration – Serpent Devourment

For fans of Entombed, Bloodbath, and Invocator, Maceration delivers the crushing sound of Danish death metal like no other. Following their triumphant comeback in 2022 with It Never Ends…, the band is set to unleash their third album, Serpent Devourment, on January 31, 2025, via Emanzipation Productions.

After 30 years away from the scene, Maceration’s return has been nothing short of monumental. Their previous album, featuring death metal icon Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Bloodbath), reaffirmed their place as pioneers of Danish death metal. Now, with Serpent Devourment, they continue to build on that legacy, this time with vocalist Jan Bergmann Jepsen (ex-Cor Vacante) leading the charge.

Jepsen, who performed live with the band during their resurrection and contributed to It Never Ends…, delivers a ferocious vocal performance that cements his place as Swanö’s successor. His guttural growls and unrelenting brutality add a raw, primal edge to the album’s ten new tracks, which balance sheer heaviness with Maceration’s signature melody and memorable riffs.

Commenting on the album, the band shared, “With this new album we have really stepped up our game. Stronger songwriting and a lot of different styled songs. It’s brutal and also melodic, and we are very pleased with how everything turned out! This marks a new era where our singer Jan Bergmann Jepsen has taken over the vocal duties 100% from Dan Swanö, and it simply sounds amazing. Also, the mix and production is very much a step up. Dirty and solid chainsaw production the way we like it. Go check it out!”

From the blistering speed of “The Suffering” and “For the End Alone” to the crushing weight of “Revolt the Tyrant Dream” and “In Rot Unleashed,” Serpent Devourment is a varied and dynamic assault. Tracks like “Where Leeches Thrive” and “The Den of Misery” showcase the band’s knack for combining old-school aggression with razor-sharp hooks.

With Jakob Schultz (formerly of Invocator) driving the songwriting and a lineup rounded out by seasoned musicians Rune Koldby (bass, ex-Spectral Mortuary), Nicolai Kaltoft (drums, ex-Corpus Mortale), and Robert Tengs (guitar), Serpent Devourment is both a callback to death metal’s golden era and a forward-thinking statement of intent.

Produced and mixed by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studio, the album is a masterclass in death metal production, delivering brutality, speed, and heaviness with clarity and precision.

Serpent Devourment will be available on black vinyl (limited to 300 copies), light blue vinyl (limited to 200 copies), CD, and digital formats. Pre-orders are live now through Emanzipation Productions. Listen below and prepare to be devoured!
