COLLAB

If I were to pick any song on this new album that felt like filler, it would be Collab. It’s not slow enough to offer the drama of Nothing But A Stranger and not energetic enough to compete with the big dance bangers. This is far more loungey and chill, as if it’s meant to be played while relaxing poolside with a cool drink. I like the brassy touches and the layered vocals on the hook, but the song itself doesn’t do a whole lot for me.

With that said, I feel like Collab will play better when the full album is assembled. As more subdued connective tissue between bigger moments, I could see the track unveiling its charms. But as a (mini) album closer, it comes across as an afterthought. I’d love to hear a remix that takes the brass elements and fuses then to more robust hooks and propulsive percussion.
